Cape Air Plane Slides Off Watertown Runway
WATERTOWN - No injuries were reported Monday afternoon when a Cape Air nine-seat Cessna slid off the runway upon landing at Watertown International Airport.
There were six passengers aboard the flight, which arrived at 3:15 p.m. from Albany. Airline spokeswoman Michelle Haynes said the pilot reported there was "little to no braking action" on the slippery runway.
Fire units from Dexter, Sackets Harbor, Brownville and Fort Drum, and ambulances from Dexter, Sackets Harbor and the town of Watertown were dispatched initially, but were quickly returned to their quarters after it was determined there were no injuries.
The craft was grounded, and the passengers were given ground transportation to their destinations, Ms. Haynes said.
Since the craft was in a snowdrift, there is damage expected, she said.
A Cape Air work crew was dispatched from the airline's headquarters in Hyannis, Mass., she said.
