FOREST CITY, N.C. - The Niagara University baseball team (0-6) was defeated 13-2 this past Sunday as Ogdensburg Free Academy graduate Bill Rafferty took the loss to fall to 0-2.

He allowed two runs in the first inning and put zeroes on the scoreboard for three straight innings until the staff ran into trouble in the fifth. Nine Mountaineers came across to score in the frame on eight hits and one error.

The former OFA three sport standout also was in the starting rotation in the Purple Eagles season opening series against nationally ranked Vanderbilt. Rafferty, the son of Patrick and Lori Rafferty, was a set-up man for Niagara last season and has been called to a starters role in the early season with a few of the Purple Eagles staff on suspension.

The Purple Eagles are back in action with a pair of doubleheaders at Longwood University on Saturday and Sunday.
