William Arthur Spriggs
Friends and family may attend calling hours at Frary Funeral Home for William Arthur Spriggs, 59, of 803 State Street, Ogdensburg, on March 6, 2010 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. A celebration of Bill's life will follow with a light lunch at Nigs Tavern on State Street. Burial will take place in the spring at Ogdensburgh Cemetery. Mr. Spriggs passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at home following a long battle with heart disease.
Mr. Spriggs is survived by his son, James and his wife Joyce of Nashville, T.N.; his daughter, Bridget Spriggs and her companion Jason Leduc of Hammond, N.Y.; two sisters, Judy Lesperance and Linda Robinson and her husband Bruce, both of Ogdensburg, N.Y.; two brothers, Tim Spriggs and his wife Jennifer and Joe Spriggs and his wife Gayle; two uncles, William and Lawrence Spriggs; one aunt, Alice Montana; five grandchildren, Scott, Gage, Nate, Lilly and Garrett and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Spriggs was born on August 21, 1950 in Ogdensburg, the son of Arthur J. and Helene W. Spriggs. Mr. Spriggs attended local schools and enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1969. He honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in December 1972. He worked for Diamond International Corp. in the maintenance department until its closing. He was an accomplished carpenter working in that trade for most of his life, notably during the construction of the 801 housing complex on Fort Drum. Mr. Spriggs was a true jack of all trades with a keen ability to fix most anything and often did while working for himself or just to assist friends and family.
Mr. Spriggs was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club. He was a life member of the Amvets, an organization he dearly loved and often volunteered in the kitchen and was very proud to assist especially with Christmas dinner. Mr. Spriggs was an avid fan of Nascar and enjoyed hunting and fishing especially with his best buddy Vern Smithers.
