Veronica C. Fregoe

MASSENA - Funeral services for Veronica C. Fregoe, 89, formerly of Madrid, will be Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Jack Downs presiding. Interment will be in St. John's the Baptist Cemetery in Madrid.

Friends and family may be received on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St., Massena.

Veronica passed away on March 3, 2010 at the St. Regis Nursing Home where she had resided since 2008.

Veronica is survived by two daughters and seven sons, Claire and husband Martin Gaines of Norwood, N.Y., Cathy Fregoe of Norfolk, N.Y., Raymond P. and wife Janet of Victor, N.Y., Gerald W. of Milton, Wash., Peter D. and wife Helen of Norwood, N.Y., Deveron J. and Sharlene of Pekinston, Miss., William D. and wife Naomi of Westerly, R.I., Joey A. and companion Kim Gilbert of North Lawrence, N.Y., Lee R. and wife Lisa of Bergan, N.Y.; 29 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Phillip in 2007.

She was born July 24, 1920 in Massena, the daughter of William and Clara (Mitchell) Peets. She married William Fregoe on Oct. 20, 1940 at St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg by the Rev. Walter Funcke. Mr. Fregoe predeceased her on April 24, 1981.

She and her husband ran a dairy farm on the North Racquette Road and later moving to Madrid residing there 27 years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, and celebrating her birthday in Higley Flow with her family.
