Pierce Runs 7th In State 1600 OFA's Wood Matches PB Highlighting OFA's state meet representation was Alex Wood who matched his personal best time of 10:22.98 run from last week in a second place finish in the 3200 meters at the Section 10 Championships.

ITHACA - Matt Pierce turned in the top showing for Section 10 at the NYS Indoor Track-and-Field Championships on Saturday at Cornell University.

Pierce, a Lisbon Central senior and Dartmouth recruit, who competes for Canton Central under a merger agreement, placed seventh in the 1600 meters in a personal-best time of 4:25.74, just 5.27 seconds off the leader, Alex Hatz of Fayetteville-Manlius. Pierce also was Section 10's Sportsmanship Representative at states.

Also for the Golden Bears, Damien Ashlaw went 6'0" in the high jump for 15th place while Zach Kenny ran a 1:30.59 in the 600 meters.

For the Canton girls, Aimee Beaudette placed 15th in the 1500 meters with a personal-best time of 4:55.05, breaking the school record previously held by Katie Marsh. Also, Jalieh Pier placed 30th in 55 meters in 7.84, Sophie Goobic places 30th in the 1000 meters in 3:12:10 while Laura Pierce, sister of Matt Pierce placed 30th in the 1500 meters with a personal-best time of 4:25.74. Pierce was the only 8th grader in the race.

Katelyn Sayer-Hall placed 26th in the shot put, Lindsey Tolman took 22nd in the high jump and Christian Lesperance and Andy Ashley competed in the 600 meter run and the long jump.
