Sunrise Honors LaFave, Bush
CANTON - Junior forward Shannon LaFave of Ogdensburg has been named the Player of the Year in the Sunrise Women's Basketball Conference. Sophomore Emily Bush of Heuvelton and senior Julie Vander Wiel of Malone were also recognized for high academic achievement.
LaFave was fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game; third in field goal percentage (.470), ninth in rebounding and tied for seventh in double-doubles in points and rebounds with three.
LaFave was also named to the All-Sunrise Conference First Team and was joined by Kristen Violette, Amber Garrison and Talisha Herring of the University of Maine at Fort Kent and Sabree Rodriguez of the University of Maine at Machias. Fort Kent defeated SUNY Canton in the conference's playoff championship game.
Bush, who also played on the Roos' Women's Soccer team which reached the Sunrise Conference finals this fall, was named the conference's Outstanding Scholar-Athlete in Women's Basketball for earning the highest grade-point average in the conference. Vander Wiel received a scholar-athlete award for the fourth time in four seasons.
