OBGC Cruises Into CYO Hoops Playoff Finals

The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club moved within one game of an undefeated sweep of Franklin CYO League honors downing Jean Quik Stop 81-45 in the playoff semi-finals on Sunday. The OBGC will meet St. John Bosco on Sunday at 2:45 p.m. in the championship game.

Ogdensburg 81, Jean's Quik Stop 45: The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club squad used a balanced offense which was clicking on all cylinders throughout the entire game. Teamwork, passing, rebounding, and scoring allowed them to win every quarter on the way to earning a spot in the CYO championship game next week.

Matt Tomford led the offense with 27 points followed by Foster Ebersole with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Ryan Kelly tallied 13 points and David Thornhill 10 to round out the double figure scoring. David Tomford hit a three in the fourth quarter, John Morrison also added three, while Colby LeBoeuf tallied two along with four rebounds and two assists. Jean's was led by Joshua Hyde with 26 points, while Travis Gainer (six), Garrett LaBare (five), Bryant Reome (four), Casey Brown and Jason Lawrence (two each) rounded out the scoring.

St. John Bosco 50, Bangor 46 (OT): In one of the most exciting games of the season, St. John Bosco won a thriller in overtime. With the lead see-sawing over the last two minutes of regulation, Corey LaMere hit one of two free throws to give Bosco the lead with 10 seconds left, 44-42. Quinton Garrand tied it up with four seconds to go and a desperation heave by Bosco's Chris Payton was just off the mark forcing overtime.

Bosco then outscored Bangor 6-2 in the extra period for the final margin of victory. LaMere led the winners with 16 points, while Shawn Wonderlie controlled the boards with 14 points and 23 rebounds, 13 in the fourth quarter alone. Alex Laflesh added 12, Chris Payton six, and Eric Manley two.

Garrand led Bangor with 17 points and John Benware hit for 11. Nick Wood (nine), Mike Adams (five), and Devan Monette (four) rounded out the Bangor scoring.

Jean's Bs 30, OBGC Bs 25: Joe Lawrence notched 11 points and hauled down six rebounds to pace the winners. OBGC was led by John Morrison with 11 points and David Tomford with six., Vinnie Molinari and Sean Love each netted three and and Colin Spriggs added two. Molinari's three was s long three banked off the glass!
