CANTON — Funeral mass for Marie Philomena "Phoebe" Gauthier, 86, of 74 State Street, Canton, will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Canton with Rev. Douglas Lucia, celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs. Gauthier died on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus. March 8th was the birthday of her late husband, Cameron J. Gauthier.

Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home on Friday, March 12, 2010, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to North Country Public Radio, 80 East Main Street, Canton, NY 13617 or the WIC Program, 238 Arsenal Street, Watertown, NY 13601. Surviving Mrs. Gauthier are five children; Dr. Kathryn Gauthier (Robert Gordon), Ottawa, ON; Christine Mace (Rick), Canton; Ellen Gauthier (Dr. Steven Miller), Lewisburg, PA; Edward ( Jacqueline), Canton; Loren "Doc" (Bev), Canton; two sisters, Lucia Johnson of Massena; Frances Robson of Roanoke, VA; a brother, Ted Catanzarite of Providence, RI; nine grandchildren, Anna and Sophie Gordon; Steven and Kevin Mace; Lindsay Miller, Graham Gauthier, Katie and Emily Gauthier, Kristen (Gauthier) Jaskowski (Michael) and two great grand-daughters Isabella and Phoebe Jaskowski. She was predeceased by three brothers; Joseph, Antonio and Frank Catanzarite. Born January 27, 1924, in Montreal, Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Catherine (Romeo) and Dominick Catanzarite. She graduated from Massena High School in 1941. She received her RN from A. Barton Hepburn School of Nursing class of 1945. On May 11, 1946, at St. Mary's Church in Massena, dressed in a wedding gown made from her groom's parachute, she married Cameron J. Gauthier. After 62 years of marriage, Mr. Gauthier predeceased her on June 25, 2008. She worked for many years in the office of Dr. Sapsin in Canton. She retired from the St. Lawrence County Dept. of Soczial Services as county nursing home coordinator. She was a member of the St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society, Grasse River Players, St. Lawrence Chapter of the Sweet Adelines International and American Red Cross Blood Services. She particularly loved opera, classical music, theatre, and hockey, especially the SLU Saints.Condolences may be shares with Phoebe's family at www.olearyfuneralservice.com.

MASSENA - Chester S. Dywan, 83, of 101 Jefferson Ave., Massena, died unexpectedly Sunday morning (March 7, 2010) at his home.

Friends and family are invited to call Thursday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Knights of Columbus Council No. 1141 will call at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and the VFW No. 1143 will pay their respects Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held Friday (March 12, 2010) at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with Rev. Michael Gaffney presiding.

Surviving Chester S. Dywan are his wife, June; three daughters, Mrs. George (Marcia) Cox of Parishville, Mrs. Fred (Monica) McLaughlin of Louisville, Mrs. Daniel (Christine) Cecot of Louisville; a son, Nicholas of Loveland, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Lillian Ruooco, Corning, N.Y., Mary Jones, Sophie Kelly, and two brothers, Andrew Dywan all of Ninety-Six, N.C., and Zigmond of Massena. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.Mr. Dywan was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph, Theodore; and a sister, Jennie Downey.

He was born in Massena on Dec. 3, 1926, the son of Joseph and Jennie (Mazur) Dywan. He was a graduate of Massena High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his discharge he was employed at Alcoa as a Millwright until he was laid of in 1954. He joined the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation and retired as a Shift Superintendent in 1982.

He married the former June Laraby on Sept. 26, 1953 at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. John Pendergast presiding. Mr. Dywan was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1141 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1443. Mr. Dywan enjoyed his family, reading, gardening, crossword puzzles, and making and refinishing furniture in his spare time.

POTSDAM - Funeral services for Rudolph Clifford "Rudy" Aiken will be held at the United Methodist Church, Potsdam on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend James Barnes officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Forest Cemetery in St. Regis Falls.

Calling hours were held at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam. Friends called on Tuesday, March 8 from 2-4 or 7-9 p.m.

Rudy died March 7, 2010 at home in Potsdam surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by Mary, his wife of 63 years, along with his two sons, Jerry and Charlotte Aiken of Massena, Rick and Debbie Aiken of Sydney, N.Y., and one daughter, Nancy and Tim Thompson of Clifton Park, N.Y. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Robert and wife Kathy of Seattle, Wash., Cory of Arlington, Va., Jeff of New York City, Jennifer of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Kristen of New York City, Laurel and husband Chris of Peru, N.Y. and Melanie of Clifton Park. Rudy is also survived by a brother, Gordon Aiken; several nieces and nephews; and four great grandchildren.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and one brother, Robert.

Rudy was born in Dickinson Center on Oct. 20, 1922 to Earl and Clara (Merrick) Aiken. He graduated in 1940 from Brushton High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Dec. 10, 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. At the time of his discharge (Nov. 25, 1945) he had achieved the rank of Sergeant.

On June 1, 1946, Rudy married Mary Noel in the Virginia Heights Baptist Church, Roanoke, Virginia. They moved to Potsdam where he was employed at the Racquette Valley Dairy. He later became a carrier for the Potsdam office of the United States Postal Service. He retired in 1984 after 17 years of service. Rudy was an active member of the Potsdam United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working in his garden.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, Inc. or the Potsdam Humane Society. Arrangements are with the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.

Funeral services for Patrick J. Robillard, RN of 531 Patterson Street Ogdensburg are incomplete with the Fox and Murray Funeral Home.

Mr. Robillard passed away on March 9, 2010 at the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
