PLATTSBURGH - A statement was made.

Chateaugay trailed just once after the opening tip and scored the following 16 points as the Bulldogs (20-3) cruised into the New York State Boys Class D Regional Basketball Finals with a 49-39 victory over Section VII champion Crown Point Wednesday night at the SUNY Plattsburgh Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs will now play for a spot in their fifth straight Final Four in Glens Falls Saturday night when they take on Section II champion Germantown starting at the SUNY Plattsburgh Fieldhouse with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.

"We came out on hitting on all cylinders in the first half tonight," said Chateaugay coach Ron Boyea. "We did a very good job of keeping their 6'8" center off the boards and didn't give him easy baskets in the first half. But we did struggle in the second half as he was able to get free for some easy looks. Overall, we did a good job but I guess you can only hold him down for so long."

Eli Franze went led the Bulldogs with 15 points, including a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, while Layton also finished in double figures with 12 points on the night. Alex Stalter grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with five points, while Eric Dwyer wrapped up an all-around performance with seven assists, four points and four steals.

Crown Point changed up their gameplan in the second half and it seemed to give them the spark they needed.

John Budwick, the Panthers' 6'8" center, took over and scored 18 of the 23 points Crown Point scored in the second half to cut the deficit to just nine heading into the fourth quarter. Budwick tallied a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Panthers as Juan Mosquera added six points in the setback.
