Rockets Basketball Players Recognized

MORRISTOWN - The Morristown Fire Department was proud to host its community's student-athletes on Tuesday as the fire hall hosted the Morristown Central School Winter Sports Awards Night.

Coaches from seven sports honored several individuals for their achievements during the season which were measured on improvement.

Girls Modified Basketball: Volunteer assistant coach Scott Rupert handed out four special awards. Offensive Player of the Year went to Jessica Geddes. The Most Spirited Award was given to Mackenzie Barse, the Best Team Player Award was presented to Erica Baldwin and Samantha Hall was named the Most Valuable Player.

Other team members honored were: Karissa Bertrand, Emily Ellison, Samantha Green, Bailey Holmes, Kiernan Hughes, Alyssa Jock, Hannah Leeder, Macalla Roberts and Mackenzie Schroh.

Boys Modified Basketball: Coach Junior Aldrich spoke about his team's competiveness in recording a 15-5 season. All members of the team were awarded trophies which includes: Zach Aldrich, Ian Bailey, Austin Brooks, Dakota Colby, Devin Dulmage, Jacob Fox, Tristan Gilmour, Kyle Horton, Jared Joanette, Zach Kanaly, Luke King, Trent Macauley, Cayden Snow, Jordan TenEyck, Jake VanArnam, and Karter VanArnam.

Girls JV Basketball: Coach Larry Kanaly expressed his gratitute for his team's work ethic. "We went 5-9 in NAC West and produced six wins on the season - the most wins in the last four-five years. We were in every game but two," said Kanaly who also saw four players score 100 points or more led by Liz Plummer's 167 points who earned Offensive Player of the Year honors. Jessica Nugent, Macy Wilson, and Mikayla Horton also scored 100 points this season. Coaches Awards went to Erica Fishel and Jessica Nugent. Most Improved Player awards went to Darima Pivovarova and Whitney Warren while MVP honors were presented to Macy Wilson. Kristen Fitchette and Kelly Ward were also honored.

Boys JV Basketball: Coach Mike Roberts JV team earned a 12-6 record after a 6-12 2008-09 season. "We were competive in every game and played very well during the season. This group has potential with work," Coach Roberts said.

Co-MVPs awards went to Brandon Aldrich and Geoffrey Baldwin who both who moved up to the varsity team with two games remaining on the JV season. The Coaches Award was given to Bobby Simmons, who displayed one of the best three-point shots in the JV ranks in West. Dakota Marshall was named the Mr. Hustle award winner while Kellas Lowery earned the Most Dedicated Player award. Other players cited for contributing to the Rocket success were: Skyler Cobb, Alex Colby, Dalton Hersey, Scott Palmer, and Chris Perretta.

Boys Varsity Basketball: Wins didn't come easy this season for Coach Mike Roberts. "We lacked size and depth. But our improvement was never an issue," said Roberts of a 3-15 campaign. Connor Learn was the Team's MVP, All NAC recipent and earned an NAC All Academic Award. Nick Nugent earned the Team's Coaches Award and was honored as a Section 10 Sportsmanship winner. Marshall Brown was recoginzed as the Most Dedicated Player with Dane Trombly being honored with the Hustle Award. Also honored were: Jeff King, Brendon Paquette, Jacob Wells, Eric Robinson, and Josh Young.

Girls Varsity Basketball: Coach Elisha DeJesus spoke about a lot milestones for the Lady Rockets. "We placed fourth in a competitive D West League - something that hasn't happen in several years, we beat Heuvelton for the first time since this group of seniors came together four years ago, and we beat Lisbon in double overtime - a game which I believe was the most exciting all season. We also recorded a five-game win streak. In the past we were lucky to win two in a row. That streak was

Claire Plummer earned All NAC honors and was the Team's Offensive Player of the Year averaging 12 points and seven rebounds a game. Point guard Katie Porter, who was injured for the last six games, was named All NAC and the Team's MVP.

"I'm truely proud of the way Katie and Claire led our team," said DeJesus. Desirea Dulmage earned NAC Sportsmanship honors while Amanda Bertrand, Gabby Marshall, Megan Kanaly and Liz Whalen was named to the Section 10 All Academic team. Morgan LaBarge was also cited for her efforts.

Cheerleaders: The Rockets honored Ariel Cobb as Most Improved Cheerleader and Carly Thompson as Most Dedicated Cheerleader.
