Gouverneur Band Wins Top Prize At Edwards Festival

EDWARDS - With a score nearly 2.5 points higher than their nearest competitor, the Wildcats from Gouverneur Central School took home the top prize this past Sunday at the annual Edwards Summer Festival.

Their score of 94.38 points also earned them first place in the Class A competition, where they bested the Blue Devils from Ogdensburg Free Academy, who earned 91.175 points, finishing fourth place overall.

The rivalry continued between Lisbon and Heuvelton, with the Golden Knights narrowly defeating the Bulldogs by a 92.045 to 91.88 margin in Class B competition. Lisbon and Heuvelton also finished second and third in the overall standings.

The Class C competition was once again won by the Green Rockets from Morristown, who earned 90.93 points, topping the Cougars from Edwards-Knox by a score of 90.93 to 88.23.

Heuvelton won first place honors for best American flag line and best drum line. Heuvelton's Drum Majorette Abbey Basford tied with Morristown's Katelynn Goyette for best drum majorette.

The Green Rockets also took home the Espirit de Corps award for showing the most spirit during the competition. Dane Trombly, of Morristown, also brought home the competition's top prize for best soloist.

Lisbon won for having the competition's best color guard and Gouverneur took home first place honors for the best horn line and for having the most difficult routine.
