Man Pleads Not Guilty To Assault
An Ogdensburg man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to an assault charge after he was accused of throwing a metal coffee can at his roommate.
Melvin A. Compo, 34, of 202-B Hamilton St., was arraigned before Judge William R. Small, who released him to the supervision of probation and adjourned his case to Aug. 10. He will seek legal counsel from the St. Lawrence County Public Defender's Office.
Mr. Compo was arrested Tuesday by Ogdensburg police and charged with third-degree assault. His roommate, a 27-year-old man, suffered a facial cut and required emergency room treatment at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. Mr. Compo was told to abide by an order of protection for his roommate.
Also before Judge Small on Wednesday, John E. Cooper, 42, of Route 6, Ogdensburg, pleaded not guilty to July 2 charges of second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. He allegedly punched a woman in the back of the head in the presence of their two children.
Judge Small released Mr. Cooper to the supervision of probation and adjourned his case to Aug. 10. He will seek legal from the St. Lawrence County Public Defender's Office. He was also told to abide by a no harassment order of protection for the woman.
In city court Tuesday before Judge George E. Silver:
*Desiree N. Bishop, 19, of 1102 Ford St., Ogdensburg, requested a non-jury trial for charges of disorderly conduct, aggravated harassment, criminal contempt and aggravated unlicensed operation. She is represented by the public defender's office.
*Dominic E. Consolini, 49, of 521 King St., Ogdensburg, requested a jury trial to answer an April charge of criminal contempt stemming from a violation of an order of protection. He is represented by the public defender's office.
*Robert J. Pike, 22, of 215 Denny St., Ogdensburg, requested a jury trial to answer September 2009 charges of operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent of 1 percent, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle. He is represented by the public defender's office.
*Frederick L. Miller, 56, of 914 Ford Ave., was sentenced to 90 days in St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton, for a Feb. 26 charge of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. He has previous convictions for the offense from last October in Morristown and last November in Jefferson County. He was also accused of having six scofflaws against him on three separate occasions.
Judge Silver also fined and surcharged Mr. Miller a total of $580.
In March, Mr. Miller was fined and surcharged $230 and given a 90-day conditional discharge after pleading guilty to aggravated unlicensed operation.
Mr. Miller was represented by the St. Lawrence County Conflict Defender's Office.
