WADDINGTON - Sabbatical's mixture of blues and jam rock will be heard from those gathering at Waddington's Island View Park Friday at 6 p.m.

The five piece band has been around for more than eight years and while members have shifted over the years, senior members Michael Scriminger and Howard Hubbard have remained.

Mr. Scriminger, who also publishes Fourth Coast Entertainment Magazine, said each of the band members brings different styles and influences to the band, creating a versatile and distinct musical ensemble.

"We are a very diverse eclectic kind of band. We used to be a cover band with a couple of originals but then we turned to full originals about two years ago," he said.

He said the group plays to different crowds depending on the venue and which members songs they play.

"Howard is on the more rockier edge of the band, depending on where we are playing he would be doing the singing. Dave Parker is more of the jammy-bluesey type. He sings at some of the festival type shows."

While Mr. Hubbard and Mr. Parker might play on different ends of the music spectrum, the bands lead singer Abby Powers, is the glue that connects the sounds together.

"Abby is very soul sounding, kind of bluesy and very dynamic, she sings the jam and the blues then turns around sings the rock too."

Dwayne Powers rounds out the band with his versatile and unique bass riffs.

Sabbatical has played along side bands like the Violent Femmes and Ten Years After. This year they are even set to take the main stage at Aug. 27 Snow Ridge Music Festival.
