POTSDAM - The owner of a Tex-Mex restaurant in Canton is expanding into downtown Potsdam and plans to hire 10 part-time employees.

Marc C. Morley has started renovating a building at 34 Market St. where he plans to operate a second Hot Tamale restaurant.

Opening is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 1.

"We're excited to be expanding into another college community," Mr. Morley said. "We've had a lot of people from Potsdam asking if we'd be opening there."

Providing free delivery service at lunch, dinner and late in the evening has proven popular in Canton where Mr. Morley resides.

"We cater to the late-night crowd so Potsdam will be a good opportunity for us," Mr. Morley said.

The Potsdam location will be set up the same as the Canton Hot Tamale which opened in February at 67 Main St.

"It will be a similar menu and similar decor. The Potsdam building space is a little bit larger," he said.

Mr. Morley is leasing the building from Frank Sergi, Canton, and Lisa Sergi, Potsdam. The building previously housed Inner Reflections, a business that offered tattoos.

Menu items will include tacos, nachos, burritos, quesadillas, taco salads and chilli, as well as vegetarian dishes. Eat-in, take-out and free delivery are available.

Customers line up in a serving area, choosing items they want, such as grilled chicken, steak, pork, ground beef, assorted toppings, vegetables, cheeses and salsa.

Mr. Morley emphasizes his use of fresh, rather than frozen ingredients.

His slogan is, "homemade, healthy and in a hurry."

The restaurant's website allows customers to print out a takeout order form. Once completed the form can be can be faxed to restaurant employees.

"That has been popular with businesses. They can pass the form around the office and then we deliver all the orders," Mr. Morley said. The Potsdam restaurant's hours will be the same as the Canton location: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and from 11 a.m. until 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The only time delivery is not available is between 2 and 5 p.m. The website is:www.yourhottamale.com
