Canadian-American Carp Challenge Coming To City Thursday-Sunday
Ogdensburg's status as a Carp Fishing Destination will take a step forward over the Labor Day Weekend when the prestigious Can-Am Challenge will be headquartered at Myers Pub.
The tournament is the only international fishing event pitting the United States against Canada and the third edition of the event will be staged from fishing sites behind the former Shade Roller and Diamond National plants. Previous tournaments were staged at Waddington and Hamilton, Ont.
The two teams will feature 34 anglers apiece and each fishing site (peg) will match an American vs Canadian fisherman who will net each other's fish.
"I'm a member of the Carp Anglers Group which started the event. It is a real rivalry but there is always great sportsmanship and spirit on the bank," said Tournament Bob Giordano who is a member of the United States team which includes fishermen from several states. "At the completion of the tournament the winning team receives a big plaque and the losing team has to sing the winning team's National Anthem. It is really a lot of fun."
The Tournament will begin on Thursday night at Myers Pub with the drawing for American and Canadian anglers at each site (peg). The fishermen will then fish nonstop until 11 a.m. Sunday morning with each fish caught receiving a point value depending on its size.
Individual cash prizes will be awarded for Biggest Fish and Highest Weight total.
