Veterans Honored By Amvets With Banquet
Veterans across St. Lawrence County will be honored with a free dinner in Ogdensburg on Patriot Day, Sept. 11.
Ogdensburg Amvets Post 19 will be holding the dinner for veterans who served in World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, Gulf War - both Desert Shield and Desert Storm, the Iraq War and in Afghanistan. Tom Robinson, a veterans counselor, will be the master of ceremony.
Reservations must be made by Wednesday by calling 393-6140.
Amvets Commander Donald P. Legault said that with many veterans from World War II and the Korean War passing away, the decision was made to host the dinner to honor many of these older veterans.
"They're dying off on us and it's a real shame. What better way to honor these veterans than by having a dinner for them," said Mr. Legault.
Mr. Legault said that not only Ogdensburg veterans are invited.
"It's for all veterans in St. Lawrence County," said Mr. Legault.
He said that they chose Patriot Day to hold the dinner because of the day's significance.
"It's a day for paying homage to people who we've lost and a day to honor all veterans of any war," said the commander.
Cocktail hour will be from 5-6 p.m. and dinner will start at 6 p.m.
The veterans dinner is free. However, any guest of a veteran will be charged $6 at the door.
The menu will be steamship roast beef, potato, salad and vegetables.
