OFA's Northern Conference Girls Volleyball Opener was not without its rough edges at home on Thursday night.

But Lady Devils' Coach Sue McLean felt that overall her lineup, which featured only only two veteran starters, was smooth at crunch time in sweeping Massena 25-17, 25-23 and 25-20.

Especially in the pivotal second game when the Devils rallied from an 18-13 deficit.

"Massena made a good run in that second game and sometimes a young team can fold up," said Coach McLean who will take her squad against another NAC East team in Salmon River on Wednesday (4:45 p.m. JV start, site to be determined)

"But we dug in with two rookies leading the way with strong serving. Felicia Barr started the rally and Sarah Weir closed it out. We served well as a team tonight."

The closure was part of an outstanding night for Weir who finished with a triple double of 20 points, 10 kills, 11 aces and five kills working off excellent playmaking from Charrette Spooner who picked up 18 assists off 44 sets to go along with four digs and two points.

"Sarah Weir showed me things she hadn't showed last year or in practice. She had a phenomenal night and Charrette Spooner was really the glue that held us together. She ran down a lot of balls in the heat and she was really tired at the end," said Coach McLean.

"I am excited for this season because we are a very deep. A lot of players are going to do nice things over the course of the season."

Kirstie Fredericks (6 digs, 4 kills, 2 points, 1 ace) was cited for doing a lot of nice things defensively and other contributions to the victory were: Emily McLellan (10 points, 5 aces, 4 kills, 2 digs), Felicia Barr (7 points, 4 aces, 2 kills, 1 dig), Brittany Redmond (3 points, 2 aces, 3 kills) and Brittany Barr (2 points, 1 kill, 1 dig, 1 assist).

Demi White anchored Massena scoring 11 points entirely off serving aces. Kaitlyn Dominie tallied two kills a and Sidney Thompson and Toni David combined for five and four digs.

SR 3 - E-K 0: Leslee Loran put on a dominate display from the service line with 24 points, including six aces, and notched nine kills the Lady Shamrocks won 25-5, 25-14, 25-10. Nicole Smoke tallied 11 service points (3 aces) and 13 assists. Kasennakohe David tallied eight points, three aces and four kills. Kiesha Cook finished with seven points, two aces and four kills while Alicia Francis generated five kills and seven assists.

Malone 3, Canton 1: The visiting Lady Huskies prevailed 25-22, 18-25, 25-6, 25-9. Elizbeth McGregor served up 10 points, including three aces to anchor the Canton (1-1) cause. Emily Archibald worked the net for nine kills to go along with five service points (2 aces).
