Lisbon, Heuvelton Boys Gear Up For Early Meeting With Shutouts

LISBON - Gearing up to renew their long-standing rivalry, on Thursday, Lisbon and Heuvelton recorded shutout victories in Tuesday's NAC West Soccer openers.

"I was happy with the way we moved the ball and Mike McDonell and Scott Lawton scored on two nice shots to get it going. It was a good win today and we face another tough game on Thursday." said Lisbon Coach Bill Reed after freshman goalie Jimmy Robinson stopped four shots for a shutout.

"We have been working with Scotty (Lawton) to take the shot when its there and he really drove it into the net today."

McDonell scored off a nice lead pass from Kyle Binion who went on to figure in three goals on the day. Lawton scored 10 minutes later off a cross from Peyton Montroy. Adam Felt set up McDonell's second goal of the game eight minutes into the second half and then scored from Binion eight minutes later.

Binion closed out the scoring from Eric Mehaffy with 15 minutes to play.

E_K 5, Hammond 0: Jon Davison supplied three goals to lift the Cougars who took a 2-0 halftime lead. Jesse Bullock and Neils Wagener each scored a goal while Joe Thompson chipped in two assists. Ben Fuller, Kurt Ellison, and Terry Hall all chipped in an assist.

Caden Dandrow stopped five shots in the shutout and Taylor Kenyon finished with 11 saves for Hammond.

Harrisville 3, Clifton-Fine 0: Joe Butts generated two goals with assists going to Austin Davis and Jason Thomas while Dakota Smith hooked up from Kody Bressette for the third goal for the Pirates.

Wayne Best stopped two shots for Harrisville and Cole Tristram made eight saves for C-F.

Heuvelton 4, Morristown: David Putman generated the first two Bulldog goals - one being assisted by Jon Sloan. Putman later assisted on Aaron Cobb's goal for a 3-0 halftime lead.

Sloan finished the scoring in the second half unassisted as Jon Cooper made nine saves for the shutout. Alex Colby stopped seven shots.

"We came out flat and didn't show alot of life. They played well," said MCS Coach Mike Roberts.

In modified action, Morristown fell 1-0 as Pierce scored for Heuvelton on a beautiful wrap-around cornerkick.

GIRLS SOCCER

Heuvelton 2, Morristown 0: Emilie Ross scored from Kaitlin Pierce in the 42nd minute and Danielle Tani connected from Ross in the 52nd for the lone Bulldog goals.

"We had a lot of shots and didn't finish them off. But Amanda Bertrand made some nice saves to keep Morristown in the game," said HCS Coach Gus Burns after the Bulldogs climbed to 3-0-1 overall.

Bertrand made 22 saves for Morristown and Sanna Jaquith stopped one shot for Heuvelton.

Harrisville 2, C-F 1: Ashley Fowler scored from Hanna Weaver for Harrisville's game-winning goal in the 77th minute. Katie French scored for Emily Lesperance in the fourth minute of the first half for Harrisville but Emily Lachut tied the game for the Eagles in the 60th from Savannah Powell.

Samantha Rounds stopped nine shots in her first varsity win. Becca Provost collected 20 saves for C-F.
