E-K Girls Ride Second Half Pull-Away Over Hammond
HAMMOND - Edwards-Knox reeled off six unanswered goals - five in the second half to defeat Hammond 8-2 in Northern Athletic Conference Girls Soccer League play on Wednesday.
"We let it slip away," said Hammond coach Shawn Dack. "We're young and we have some potential but it is coming slow."
Kamrie Dandrow generated two goals and three assists for the Cougars while Mercedes Mackin scored twice. Alyssa Crosby scored both Hammond goals.
Alyssa Crosby blistered a shot from 10 feet out on a one-on-one play with the goal for the first goal of the game in the 15th minute from Tayler Bowman's short pass. But Edwards-Knox caught Hammond not marking up and went right down the field for a goal off the kickoff when Veronica White scored from Kamrie Dandrow.
Dandrow scored her first of two goals off Ashley Davison for a 2-1 lead in the 18th. Crosby answered from Emily Bush in the 20th to tie the game at 2-2.
The Cougars took the lead for good in the 30th minute as Meredes Mackin scored from Dandrow.
Dandrow opened scoring in the second half from Harleigh LeBarge just two minutes in. LeBerge, Davison, Sarah Manning, and Mackin all scored in the second half with Davison, Hendricks, and Dandrow all logging assists. Shelby Tate stopped nine shots for Hammond. Katie Hale handled seven shots for Edwards-Knox.
