Devils Seek Rebound Visiting Fast-Starting M-W Shamrocks Down OFA Jackets Down Massena

OFA will be looking to regroup and rebound while Madrid-Waddington will be looking to pick up where they off on Friday when Yellowjackets host the Lady Devils in an NAC West Division Volleyball matchup beginning at 4:45 p.m.

The Blue Devils (1-1) dropped a four-game interdivisional matchup against Salmon River on Wednesday while the Yellowjackets opened their season with a four-game interdivisional win over Massena.

"We showed our athleticism tonight but we just struggled with our consistency," said OFA Coach Sue McLean after the Shamrocks (2-0) posted a 17-25, 10-25, 25-23, 17-25 victory.

"Receiving serve was a problem. In the first game we fell behind 11-0 but we did put together a very nice third game."

Leading the SR efforts Nicole Smoke produced 18 service points, seven kills, and nine assists, Alicia Francis collected 16 service points, four aces, six kills, and three assists, and Leslee Loran tallied 11 service points, four kills, and seven assists.

Felicia Barr (6 digs) led OFA's scoring with 13 points and two aces while Emily McLellan (6 digs, 5 points, 1 aces) and Sara Weir (7 digs, 2 points, 1 block, 2 aces, 1 block) led the offense at the net with 10 and seven kills. Charrette Spooner (6 digs, 1 kill) passed out 10 assists while scoring eight points with one ace.

Kristie Fredericks delivered 12 digs along with one point, one kills and one assist and Brittany Barr (4 digs, 2 kills) scored eight points with three aces. Molly Morrow contributed seven digs and Brittany Redmond scored three points.

The OFA JVs won there season opener 2-1.

MASSENA - Good start and exciting finish.

"We had good start winning the first two games. Massena got stronger by game three but our serving was key to winning," said M-W Coach Laurinda Stockwell after a 25-15, 25-18, 26-28, 26-24 win on the Raiders' court.

Ashley Beldock sealed the win with a putdown kill after two good sets in the 26-24 win.

"Today,our court coverage was very good. Massena really played a sound defensive game. I thought we were aggressive offensively. We did a nice job setting up offensively. The last three games were just excellent close games," said Stockwell.

Beldock finished with 15 points, five aces, five kills for the winners while Kristin Miller supplied 20 points, 12 aces, and three kills. Kristin King collected nine points, two aces, 23 sets, eight assists and five kills while Ashleigh Bracy tallied five points, one ace, and one kill.

Other M-W contributions came from: Megan Parmeter (three points, one ace, 12 sets, two assists, one kill), Shauna Vallance (three points, one ace), Kayla Vallance (one point, one ace, four kills), Dee Ibey (two points, one ace) and Jessica Reed (eight sets, three assists). Cited from strong libero play were Shauna Vallance and Olivia Blackmore while Marianna Zeledon played strong defensively.

For Massena, Debbie White generated 17 points and six aces. Ronee Cree (seven points, four aces), Dana Conger (nine points, three aces) also contributed solid play as did libero Toni David.

AROUND THE NAC

Malone 3, Potsdam 1: The Huskies won 27-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-10 led by Amanda Gadway's 12 points, 11 kills, and four aces and Chelsea Metcalf's 12 points, two aces and 10 kills. For Potsdam, Kiana McDonough (13 points, five aces, two kills), Kara Murray (six points, three aces, two kills), Kristy Huczel (three points, six aces, one kills, four blocks), and Alyssa Hill (22 sets, three assists, two aces, one point) contributed leadership efforts.

Chateaugay 3, E-K 0: The Bulldogs swept the Cougars 25-10, 25-15, 25-5 as Amanda Woodward provided 14 points, six aces, five assists, and three kills followed by Mikayla Patnode (16 assists), Katelyn Legacy (24 points, eight aces, nine kills).

Gouverneur 3, B-M 1: The Wildcats rallied after falling 25-19 in the first game to win the next three 25-16, 25-22, 25-17. Christina Morales Snellson provided 21 points, three aces, three kills, one dig and three sets for Gouverneur while Jacy Melillio tallied seven points, one ace, one kill, one block, 10 assists and 26 sets. For the Panthers, Maegan LaValley had 14 points, Mercedes Jock posted eight kills, and Rebecca Adams added eight points.

Tupper Lake 3, Canton 0: The Lumberjacks swept 25-23, 25-21, 28-26.

In the setback, Emily Archibald tallied four kills and two aces while Michelle Barkley tallied seven points, two aces, three kills and two assists. Alyssa Hughes added five assists while Emily McGregor (five points, one kill), Kacie Wentworth (three aces, two kills), and Gabrielle Hopkins (four points, three aces) also had solid efforts.
