Ogdensburg Republican voters should cast their ballots for William Small for city judge in Tuesday's GOP primary.

Judge Small is the only candidate running who has actually served as a judge, presided over an arraignment or run a trial.

As Ogdensburg's part-time city judge, he has been working with and learning from Ogdensburg City Judge George Silver. Mr. Small is a respected lawyer who understands the problems of this community.

As someone who has chosen to live inside the city, he understands the need to keep our community's neighborhoods safe.

Kevin Felt has spent the past two years working as the deputy treasurer of St. Lawrence County, alongside longtime Treasurer Robert McNeil.

He was chosen to serve in the position by Mr. McNeil who was looking for someone with the in-depth financial skills to advise St. Lawrence County officials on the county's fiscal state.

As an experienced accountant and former private sector comptroller who earned a Master's in Business Administration from Clarkson University, Mr. Felt can provide the county legislature and county officials with the kind of in-depth and independent financial analysis that they must have to develop their annual budget and tax rate.

St. Lawrence County today spends more than $220 million a year in local, state and federal funds. To spend that money wisely, legislators need to have the kind of in-depth analysis that someone like Mr. Felt can provide.

Just as importantly, Mr. Felt has won the respect and support of the staff of the treasurer's office staff.

Republican voters in Canton and Madrid are lucky to have someone like Kevin Acres running for a seat on the St. Lawrence County Legislature.

While we like and respect his Republican opponent in Tuesday's GOP primary, we think the legislature needs Mr. Acres.

Mr. Acres is a successful businessman and farmer at a time when the business and agricultural community needs leaders with the kind of first hand knowledge to look out for their unique interests. As a former Madrid-Waddington school board member, Mr. Acres will bring to a divided legislature an understanding of the importance of reaching across the political divide to help all the people of our county. Mr. Acres understands the need to get the best value for the dollars spent by county government. He has raised important ideas like ways to improve the county's health insurance program while holding down costs. As someone who helped implement that idea at Madrid-Waddington, Republicans should elect him to help county government consider the idea.
