Final NCAA men's soccer: Amherst 3, St. Lawrence 2


Saints score first goal of the game in the 14th minute off a direct kick. Sam DeMello takes the kick and James Stewart puts the shot in for a 1-0 lead.

Three minutes after the goal, SLU goalie Nate Goss-Woliner came up with a big save on a scoring chance from Amherst's Julien Aoyama.

Amherst's Spencer Noon is given a yellow card in the 27th minute.

Good scoring chance for Amherst in the 34th minute. Scramble in front, shot by Alejandro Sucre just goes wide of empty corner of net, but he's injured on the play.

HALFTIME: 1-0 SLU. SLU leads 8-6 in shots and 3-1 in corner kicks.

SLU's Dan Marvin took a pass from Andrew Bednarsky and had a good scoring chance but his shot was kicked out of bounds by Amherst's Sam Kaplan, just outside of the goal box in the 52nd minute.

Amherst ties the game on a breakaway goal to the far corner by James Mooney in the 62nd minute

Amherst takes the lead with another goal from James Mooney in the 63rd minute. This goal came about 1:28 after the previous goal. 2-1 lead for the Lord Jeffs.

Saints answer with a rebound goal from Emmanuel Mbong just 38 seconds after Amherst's goal to tie the game 2-2.

SLU's James Stewart gets a yellow card after colliding with Amherst goalie Leonard Kovacs with 11:35 left in second half.

Amherst takes a 3-2 lead with 7:48 left in the second half off a corner kick. Sam Kaplan took the corner kick. The ball bounced around a bit in the box and then James Mooney kicked it in for his third goal of the day.

Three cards with 3:49 left in the game. Amherst's Ian Rothkopf and the Amherst bench got yellow cards. SLU's Alex Laird got a red card. SLU will play one man down for rest of game.
