For the first time since Oct. 24-25, 2008, the Golden Knights will face the top-ranked team in the nation when they skate against Yale at 7 tonight at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.
Clarkson (11-8-2 overall, 5-3-1 ECAC Hockey) hosted Colorado College in that series and came away with 1-1 and 2-2 ties. Clarkson's last win over a No. 1 team earned the team a spot in the Frozen Four when the Golden Knights defeated Lake Superior State 4-3 on March 24, 1991. Clarkson head coach George Roll and associate head coach Greg Drechsel were both assistant coaches on that team and assistant coach Chris Rogles was a sophomore goalie.
Yale (15-2, 9-1) had a 10-game win streak snapped on Sunday when it lost 3-2 at Brown. It was also the first conference loss of the season for the Bulldogs. Yale's only other loss came 4-3 at Air Force on Nov. 14.
Brown (6-7-4, 4-5-1) is just 1-3-2 at home this season, with the win over Yale the Bears only victory at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I. Brown also upset Yale in an ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal series last year and wound up finishing third in the conference tournament.
