While the coaching staff and St. Lawrence University cannot formally comment on any recruit until they've signed, I can say that the list of commitments reported on several web sites and minor hockey team pages is strong. Here's a rundown:

Nelson Armstrong - A 1993-born defenseman who, should he come next season as expected, would be the youngest ever to play for St. Lawrence. He doesn't turn 18 until December.

Matt Carey - He's Greg Carey's brother and may be with the team in 2012. He currently plays for Hamilton in the OJHL.

Ross McMullan - Another defenseman, McMullan will come in a bit older. He's a 1991 birth and plays in the EJHL for Springfield. Chris Heisenberg's list reports that McMullan will come to St. Lawrence in 2012.

Patrick Doherty - A center, Doherty will be 20 years old by the time he starts his college career. He currently plays for the NH Jr. Monarchs of the EJHL. He has 30 points on eight goals and 22 assists this season.

Alex Hagen - He currently plays prep and will likely come in 2012. He's with the Choate school now. It's where SLU head coach Joe Marsh began his coaching career.

Gunnar Hughes - Hughes is current St. Lawrence defenseman George Hughes' brother. Gunnar committed last season and is reportedly coming next year to SLU.

Chris Martin - Martin is winger playing in the USHL for Indiana. He rounds out the reported recruiting commitments for this season.

Thoughts

St. Lawrence didn't need much and won't lose a ton at the end of this year. Last season's enormous incoming class was rare, but necessary. Given the talent level of the current freshman, and St. Lawrence appears poised to grow exponentially. This class should compliment the current group well.
