Democratic county Legislature candidates Ron Cole and Mike Astafan were among the Democrats who came out to support striking Verizon Communications workers.
Facing cuts to benefits, 45,000 unionized workers at Verizon Communications have gone on strike — a figure that includes a few dozen in the Watertown area.
They're out at the Verizon facility on Coffeen Street. You may see them pacing back and forth with signs in support of the middle class.
The Dems also brought food, according to a news release: peppers, onions, sausage, braised potatoes, watermelon and cookies.
"We had a great time marching with our friends in labor," Jefferson County Dem chair Sean Hennessey said in a news release. "It's the least we can do to support them in this difficult time. These are hard working Americans and they deserve all the support our committee can provide."
Mr. Astafan is facing off against Republican Jonathan Hirschey in the Nov. 8 election. Mr. Cole is facing off against Republican Bobby Ferris.
Assemblywoman Addie Russell also made it out to the picket line.
