Matt Doheny will host a fundraiser for fellow Republican Jim McClusky, a Supreme Court candidate who is in the middle of a fight among between the small counties of the north country and Onondaga County, the big, bad wolf.

Mr. Doheny, a soon-to-be Republican congressional candidate, will host the event on Sept. 7 at the Black River Valley Club on Washington Street from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets at $75 for an individual, and $125 for a couple.

Respond, if you please, to 232-4551.

Mr. McClusky is fighting to get on the Republican ballot in November's election. The state Supreme Court judicial district that we live in including Jefferson and Lewis counties, a smattering of smaller ones, plus Onondaga County. There's no formal statute that says the smaller counties get to have judges who reside in each county, but that's sort of the way it's always been. But a few Onondaga County attorneys are vying for seats — though none of the Onondaga County seats are open. That could leave Jefferson or Lewis counties without Supreme Court representation, meaning plaintiffs will have to travel further. It could also result in a dearth of lawyers in the area.
