State senators are holding a hearing this morning on legalizing casino gambling in the state — which would require a constitutional amendment.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says his administration is looking into it.
And state Sen. Joe Griffo, R-Rome, who represents part of St. Lawrence County and Lewis County, wants the people to decide.
“In a challenging economic climate, all New Yorkers should have a voice if we move ahead in significantly expanding gaming options," Mr. Griffo said.
That would mean a ballot initiative — though that would be necessary anyway with a constitutional amendment. (Constitutional amendments must pass both houses of the Legislature, twice, and then go to the people for a vote.)
