Gouverneur Central Honors Premier Athletes, Coaches, Teams In First Hall Of Fame Class


GOUVERNEUR - After many years of planning, fundraising and construction, Gouverneur High School will welcome 20 individuals and teams at a ceremony to be held Saturday, Sept 24 at 5:30 p.m. as they unveil the school's Athletic Wall of Fame.
The group can attend a pancake breakfast at the school, tour Riverview Park at 11 a.m., tour the renovated High School at 12:15 and attend the Gouverneur/Saranac Central homecoming football game before the evening's presentations and unveiling of the wall at a dessert reception.
Tickets for the ceremony and reception are on sale at the High School office.
\The first of many athletes and coaches to be honored for their accomplishments and contributions to Gouverneur's rich sports history are Leo Canale, Noreen Chamberlain, Bernie Dailey, Roger Dodds, Dave Harper, Lacey Jones, Frank LaFalce, Amy Jo Leonard, Mark Leonard, James Lobdell, Art Moe, Nate Shippee and John Tehonica.
A number of teams will be honored as well:
The 1951-52 Wrestling team, coached by Kurt Maier. Team members were James Lynde, Earl Bogart, Dave Schooley, Dale McKinney, Frederick June, James Schooley, Walter Malbouf, Richard Freeman, George Shampine, Gary Robertson, Robert Gates, Robert Tuttle, Dale Farren, Daniel Slate, Gordon White, Grant Brundage, Harold Gladle, Robert Woodard, James McIntosh, Monte Holland, Robert Hunkins, Carl Cappellino, Mario DeCastro, Laurel Finley, Leo Benware, Howard Finley, Richard Tessmer, Lyle Edgerly, Olan Aldrich and William Shephard.
The 1953-54 Basketball Team, coached by Frank LaFalce. Team members Raymond Hamilton, Robert Ritchie, Richard Dier, Keith Knowlton, John Burgess, Arthur Tibbits, Paul Byrns, Judson VanCor, Douglas Fredenburg, Bernard Dailey, Eugene Hockey, Charles Hogue and Thomas Gardner.
The 1960 Baseball team, coached by Frank LaFalce. Team members were Fred Horton, Robert Ingram, John Washburn, Charles Hillis, Joseph Clancy, William Hollis, William Jones, Peter Hilts, Robert Porter, James Tremlett, John Houston, William Porter, Thomas Donaldson, James Hutton, Michael Clancy, Steven Brown, Gary Countryman, David Brown, James Skeldon, Robert Davies and David Peck.
The 1962-63 Wrestling team, coached by Lacey Jones. Team members were David Bush, Joe Pistolesi, Junior Swem, John Denesha, Joe Smith, Jim Sterling, Dan Pitts, Ralph Weldon, Tom Chilton, Bill Gore, Greg Conklin, Gerald Weir, Reggie LaRock, Phillip Bush, Michael Saidel and Larry Hance.
The 1978-79 Basketball Team, coached by John Mossing. Team members were Dave Shaw, Marc Reuss, Jim Young, Harry Ward, Andy Leonard, Jim Hatch, Brian Gonyeau, Bill Hatch, Vincent Wood, Henry LaQuier, Bill Hall, Mark Knowlton, David Leonard. Mike Burgess, Bob Canell and Kurt Wells.
The 1982 Football Team, coached by Robert Porter and Robert Audycki. Team members were Kelly O'Donnell, Jim Mullin, Joe Lamar, Mike Ehart, Darren VanOrnum, Tom Leonard, Dave Audycki, Dave Ouderkirk, Matt Carbone, Dave Cummings, Randy Thayer, Mike O'Donnell, Eric Tessmer, Dennis Love, Kevin Roberts, Robbie Todd, John Love, Rick Marcellus, Garth Monica, Brian Langtry, Lonnie Scott, Duane Fenlong, Jadd Brown, Tim Knowlton, Dave Richards, Greg Streeter, Russell Young, Mike Carbone and Dave Dodds .
The 1992 Softball Team, coached by Chuck Gonio. Team members were Darleen Hawkins, Sara Benware, Michelle Hayes, Dawn Currier, Norma Matice, Heather Plante, Tammy Scott, Katrina Venton, Mandi Stevens, Clara Pistolesi, Lisa Matice, Becky House and Tara Reed.
