Russell: 'I'm not running for Senate'

This will be updated, perhaps into a full story, but I wanted to pass along some news that is on the record for the first time, but that we in the politics world have known for a long time: Assemblywoman Addie Russell, D-Theresa, isn't going to run for Senate.
Mrs. Russell, whose district overlaps somewhat with state Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, told me that in the context of a point that I brought up at a news conference she had this morning. Mrs. Russell and Mrs. Ritchie both have cross-border initiatives to help further our ties with Canada. But neither Mrs. Russell nor Mrs. Ritchie have invited one another to, you know, pull in the same direction.
Now, I'm not saying that the two efforts — which are distinct and have different aims, after all — need to be merged or anything. But it would be nice to see cross-aisle initiatives to go along with cross-border initiatives. The two offices hardly talk to each other.
Anyhow, back to Mrs. Russell's pronouncement.
It's been pretty clear for the past few months that she has no interest in running. She's working her way up the leadership chain in the Assembly. Plus, the Senate district is much bigger (and more Republican) than the Assembly district — without a big requisite pay raise.
So the question always was, Why bother? Mrs. Russell had her Chris Christie moment, and I think that'll pretty much be the end of that.
