To be provocative or something, I asked whom Republican Matt Doheny would support in the GOP primary.

Mr. Doheny's spokesman, Jude Seymour, told me over lunch at the Crystal that Mr. Doheny will support whoever ends up being the Republican nominee to take on President Barack Obama, and believes that whoever that nominee is will find success in the race.

Interestingly, Republican candidate Mitt Romney endorsed Mr. Doheny's 2010 run for Congress, according to Mr. Seymour's authoritative archives when he was occupying the seat that I now do.

But Mr. Doheny isn't hitching his wagon to any star this early in the race, and from what his spokesman is saying now, he'll stay out of it and let the primary run its course.

Mr. Doheny will likely run against Democratic Rep. Bill Owens for the north country's congressional seat.
