For at least the third time that I'm aware of, state Sen. Patty Ritchie has sent an automated call to her constituents — this time, on the changes to the tax code that were approved last week.
"I’m calling to let you know about the new Middle Class Tax Cut that lets you keep more of your hard-earned money," Mrs. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, says in the call, which her office provided me.
Mrs. Ritchie's position is that the legislation did not raise taxes — even though it did, for those who make more than $1 million. How else would it bring in $1.9 billion more to help stave off cuts to education and health care?
Nevertheless, the majority of tax filers in Mrs. Ritchie's district did receive a tax cut of between $300 and $400 annually.
Here is the full transcript of the call, which went out to 40,000 residents and will be paid via her campaign funds, spokesman Jim Reagen said.

Starting January 1st, tax rates will drop for nearly 100,000 taxpayers in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties.
It’s all part of a plan to create jobs and give a much needed jolt to our economy.
New Yorkers demanded action, and I wanted you to know that I’m listening—and working hard to help create a better future.
