City May Pay To Fire Sciorra Tonight
City Manager Arthur J. Sciorra may end up leaving Ogdensburg a richer man if new resolutions are passed by the City Council today.
The council was slated to consider resolutions to either reinstate Mr. Sciorra or fire him with cause after accusing him of incompetence, neglect of duty and willful misconduct, however, a new resolution released Monday would fire Mr. Sciorra without cause.
If Mr. Sciorra is fired without cause, the city would have to pay him a severance equal to six months pay and benefits.
The council also added a resolution empowering acting City Manager Philip A. Cosmo to negotiate a settlement to Mr. Sciorra's Notice of Claim against the city.
In December, Mr. Sciorra accused the city of defamation and breach of contract in response to actions taken to fire him.
