Knights Check Harrisville To Tie For Lead
LISBON - Lisbon's plans to defend the share of the NAC West boys basketball title they shared with Hermon-DeKalb last season received a midseason jump-start on Thursday night. The Golden Knights handed Harrisville its first West loss in a impressive show of defense in a 50-37 decision which left both teams tied for the lead at 7-1.
The Golden Knights are currently riding a six game win streak improving to 9-4 overall and will play their fourth game in five days tonight against Clifton-Fine at home. The Pirates fell to 9-5 overall and saw a four-game winning streak snapped.
"Our defense set the tone tonight. We are playing excellent defense and that's giving us our identity. We know its going to be our defense to win us games because we're not going to win many scorefests," said LCS coach Sean Backus.
Kyle Binion ignited the Knights who took a 26-18 lead at halftime connecting for 16 points. Binion finished with 27 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. James Robinson tallied 14 points and hauled in 12 rebounds while Adam Felt effectively ran the point and scored four points. Dylan Crawford worked extremely hard on the defensive side according to Coach Backus.
Wayne Best tallied 15 points for Harrisville and Justin Hartle added 10.
In the junior varsity game, Harrisville won a 47-26 decision.
Gaizek Colson scored 15 for the winners while Nathen Weaver added 12 and Bailey Clark and Jared Draythaler each scored 10.Jake Putney tallied eight, Devon Binion scored six and Ryan Buckley added five points for Lisbon.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
C-F 75, Lisbon 36: Expanding a 16-8 lead to 34-14 at halftime, the Eagles improved to 10-2, 3-2 in NAC West over the Golden Knights (4-9, 0-7 NAC West) in Star Lake.
Hunter Hitchman generated 22 points including two three-pointers and handed out nine assists and collected three steals to pace C-F. Morgan Skeldon tallied 19 points, 19 rebounds, and blocked two shots for the winners who received solid contributions from: Alexis Pomerville (nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal), Becca Provost (15 points, 15 rebounds, three steals, two assists), Nicole Brown (four points, five rebounds, six assists, two steals, one block), and Delaney Kerr (six points, eight rebounds).
Alison Akins tossed in 16 points with three three's for Lisbon. Sarah Bodwell added eight while Gabby Walker chipped in six.
Canton 47, Brushton-Moria 41: In Canton, the Bears (7-7. 3-2 NAC North) took a 15-8 first quarter lead and held on as Katie Murray scored 12 points, Ema Rexford chipped in 10, and Kali Frank added eight to pace the winners. Kaeli Mace and Emily Pickney each scored six.
Emily LaPage scored 13 for Brushton-Moria (6-6, 3-2 NAC North). Brooke Boyea added nine while Jessica Jaques added eight. Haylea Gary followed with seven.
Gouverneur 57, St. Lawrence Central 51: The Wildcat (2-10) held off a Larries (3-11) second half comeback for the win at home. Megan Morrow and Kirstin Roberts each delivered a team high 18 points for Gouverneur. Lindsey Thayer and Breanna Vatter each scored 20 points for St. Lawrence.
E-K 67, SRF 21: Claire Davis tossed through a game-high 19 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and notched four steals as the host Lady Cougars posted a convincing NAC East win. Kate Smith generated 16 points and four assists. Alexia Hawn struck for another 15 points followed by Madison Tressider with eight and Katie Hale with six as E-K improved its division record to 4-4 and overall mark to 4-9.
For the Lady Saints (1-13, 1-8), Racheal Duquette netted seven points followed by Ariel Gardner with six.
Chateaugay 66, P-H 39: Makayla Fleury led the Chateaugay effort with 18 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists. Courtney Boyea tossed through another 16 points followed by Alexis Beach (6 steals) with 11, Katie Beach with five and Hannah Cook with three. Abby Barnes (10 rebounds) and Caitlin Miller netted two points apiece to close out the scoring for Chateaugay (11-3, 7-1).
Megan Evans led P-H with 10 points followed by Jena Jacot with eight, Jessica Richards with seven and Jenna Converse with four. Elisabeth Lavelle and Ashley Schiavone both tallied a three-pointer. Caitlin McGregor added a free throw as the Lady Panthers slipped to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in the East.
