Albert T. Montroy, formerly of Ogdensburg, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 26, at his home in Melbourne, Florida. At the time of his death, Mr. Montroy worked as a senior software engineer for the Harris Corporation.

In addition to his mother, Holley Ives Montroy Smith, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Mr. Montroy is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sorensen Montroy, three sons, Conor (16), Seth (13), and Dylan (10), a sister, Melissa (“Missy”) Van Kirk, and her husband Richard Van Kirk of Kodak, TN, a niece, Adrienne Aumell, of Kodak, two nephews, Anthony Aumell, of Nashville TN, and Daniel Van Kirk, also of Kodak . He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from both the Montroy and Ives families. His father, Albert Montroy, passed away in 1997.

Mr. Montroy was born on December 14, 1967 in Ogdensburg, NY, son of Albert and Holley (Ives) Montroy. He was baptized and confirmed at Notre Dame Church, were he became an active member of its youth programs and served as an altar boy.

Mr. Montroy enjoyed competitive sports, and was a member of the football, wrestling, and track programs at Ogdensburg Free Academy, where he graduated as class president in 1986. Additionally while at OFA, he was a member of the National Honor Society and served a term as president of the OFA Key Club. Mr. Montroy went on to earn a BA in languages at Virginia Tech in 1991— where he met his future wife, Carolyn Sorensen—and a MS in computer science at Clemson University in 1995.

Mr. Montroy will be remembered for his love of family, his kindness and generosity, his sense of humor, his professional and personal integrity, his love of the outdoors, his ever-abiding faith in the Virginia Tech “Hokies” football program, and the enormous pride and pleasure he took sitting in as back-up guitarist for his sons’ “on the cusp of stardom” rock ‘n roll band.

The Frary Funeral Home will be handling arrangements for a memorial service to be held in Ogdensburg at a yet-to-be-decided date.
