With the New York Giants and New England Patriots squaring off in football's biggest game on Sunday, what's a Jets fan to do?
Watertown's most popular Gang Green booster, and its preeminent politics blogger, is sticking with his New York roots in the Super Bowl.
"As a good New Yorker, I would say, Giants, 31-21," said Watertown Mayor Jeff Graham.
(Full disclosure: I'm a big enough Patriots fan that I had a nightmare recently about the team's 1997 loss to Brett Favre's Green Bay Packers.)
"I don’t like the Patriots, because of the rivalry with the Jets," Mr. Graham said. "I think the Giants have played well. They’ve played strong in the postseason."
Mr. Graham said that Jets headlines were still a priority for him.
"As a Jets fan, I was more interested in the headlines today that Mark Sanchez is dating Kim Kardashian," Mr. Graham said. "What does (Jets head coach Rex) Ryan think of that?"
I asked Mr. Graham what he thought of the debate over the true home of the Giants — is it New York, as Gov. Andrew Cuomo contents, or New Jersey, as Gov. Chris Christie posits?
"It’s the New York Giants," he said. "The fact that the stadium is in Jersey doesn’t really matter. When push comes to shove, New Jersey is a part of New York anyway. ... I think the governor there is dreaming when he thinks it’s a separate state."
