H-D, Hammond Continue Roll; Harrisville Trips C-F
Hermon-DeKalb and Hammond continued their NAC West Division success with commanding wins on Monday evening in NAC Girls Basketball action as the Demons (13-2, 7-1 West) toppled Lisbon 49-23 and Red Devils (14-2, 10-1 NAC West) defeated Heuvelton 53-39. H-D plays at Heuvelton tonight before traveling to Hammond on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Harrisville took advantage of a 5-on-4 advantage in the final six minutes of the their contest with Clifton-Fine to win a 60-59 decision at the buzzer on a six foot shot by Kathleen Coloney.
H-D 49, Lisbon 23: Down 7-6, the Demons scored the last seven points of the first quarter and went on a 14-3 run in the second quarter. Courtney Harrington scored 13 points while Jocelyn Moulton tallied 10 and Brianna Sayer scored nine. Kelly Williams chipped in another eight.
For Lisbon (4-11, 0-9 NAC West), Alison Akins scored eight points while Sarah Bodwell added five.
In the JV game, Hermon-DeKalbs Bridget Rust scored 24 points, Paige Whitton netted 11 and Chelsea MacKay added six in a 46-29 win. Alex Amo scored 13 points and Katie Sovie added eight for Lisbon.
Hammond 53, Heuvelton 39: A 19-6 second quarter helped the Devils (14-2, 10-1 NAC West) establish a 35-20 halftime lead. Alyssa Crosby tallied 26 points while Brianna Langtry added nine. Emily Bush added seven more.
I thought we came out with some good energy and toughness. Our team focus was key defensively tonight. Heuvelton is a very talented group. Our bench played some nice minutes tonight, said Hammond coach Shawn Dack.
Emilee Ross scored 12 points for Heuvelton (9-7 4-6 NAC West) while Logan Tallman added eight and Alexis Weidner chipped in six.
In the junior varsity game, Heuvelton prevailed 39-30 over Hammond. Paige McCormick scored 13 and Rachel Thornhill added eight. Sierra Fleming led all scores with 17 points for Hammond and Paige Frisina had 9.
Harrisville 60, Clifton-Fine 59: After Hunter Hitchman scored to make it 59-58 C-F with a three point play, the Lady Pirates (10-7, 4-5 NAC West) got the ball back with eight seconds remaining. Amy Paro controlled an offensive rebound and sent a pass to Kathleen Coloney who scored at the buzzer on a six foot shot in the paint capping the win. The Pirates enjoyed a five-on-four advantage against the Eagles who started the evening with five players.
Desi Andrew scored 18 points for Harrisville while Janel Swanson scored 13 with three threes and Paro added 12. Coloney finished with nine points and 11 boards. Chelsea Pierce added eight boards and three points.
For the Eagles (10-6, 3-6 NAC West), Hitchman scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds, collected six steals and seven seven assists. Alexis Pomerville added 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Morgan Skeldon added 15 points and 18 boards. Delaney Kerr added 11 rebounds and three assists.
