Polar bear plunge raises $4,348
Saturdays sixth annual Polar Bear Plunge in the St. Lawrence River drew 17 contestants who raised $4,348.21 in pledges.
Its absolutely fabulous, Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sandra M. Porter said Tuesday, pleased with the outcome of the event which was held in the city marina.
The pledge total will be divided evenly between the Chamber and the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad.
The participants, their pledge totals and, where applicable, costumes were:
■ Jack Downing, 13, Ogdensburg, was the top pledge generator, raising $1,461. He won $439 for the honor. Dressed as a ballerina, this was his third plunge.
■ Paige Merz, 9, Ogdensburg, was second with $870 in pledges raised. She was dressed as a penguin.
■ Richard Fitzgerald, 69, Hermon, raised $200 and wore pajamas. He has participated in every plunge.
■ Alexa McKee, 10, Ogdensburg, raised $247 in pledges. She dressed as a nerd.
■ Daniel May, 28, Watertown, generated $45 in pledges. He was dressed as Captain America.
■ Callee Zulauf, 11, Ogdensburg, raised $87.50 and was dressed in mix and match.
■ Kimberly Duprey, 52, Lisbon, collected $161 in pledges.
■ Maggie Dean, 26, Heuvelton, generated $110 in pledges. She was dressed as Superwoman and won second place in the costume contest. That got for her a $25 gift card for Busters Sports Bar, Ogdensburg, donated by Lee Jones Insurance, Ogdensburg.
■ Laurie Sargent, 49, Ogdensburg, raised $230.
■ Matt Peacock, 44, Canton, generated $75 in pledges. He was dressed as a lunatic.
■ Kim Demers, 60, Ogdensburg raised $526.71. He was dressed in a wetsuit.
■ Alysa Lanevile, 18, Massena, generated $50 in pledges. She was dressed as B-K Tops.
■ Carson Benggio, 22, Massena, raised $45. He was also dressed as B-K Tops.
■ Anthony Scruton, 15, Massena, collected $40 in pledges. He was also dressed as B-K Tops.
■ Erick Bouchard, 31, Ogdensburg, generated $100 in pledges.
■ Kerry Newell, 64, Heuvelton, raised $35. He was dressed as a voyager.
■ Keegan Taylor, 8, Ogdensburg, generated $104 and was dressed as a cowboy. That was the first-place costume which resulted in a $50 cash prize from Phillips Diner, Ogdensburg.
SummerHaven Pools and Spa, Potsdam, provided the hot tub.
The master of ceremonies was Wolfman Bill from The Wolf 95.3 FM radio. He also provided each jumper with a T-shirt.
Stewarts Shops donated soft drinks. Door prizes were provided by Aubuchon Hardware, Sholettes Liquors, North Country Savings Bank and Community Bank NA.
