Hoffman on Assembly is same as Hoffman on Congress

At least two north country politicos — one in the Conservative Party, the other in the Republican Party — are suggesting that Doug Hoffman run for Assembly.
His answer is similar to the one he gives when folks ask whether he'll run for Congress for the third time.
"At this point, I”m certainly listening and looking at all my options. But we don’t know where the Assembly lines are going to be," Mr. Hoffman, a Lake Placid accountant, told me this morning.
The proposed district for the Assembly seat that Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward is retiring from includes all of Essex County, where Mr. Hoffman lives.
But he is unlikely to run, he said, if the district eventually encompassed Clinton County, where there's already "an excellent conservative candidate" in Karen Bisso who is taking on Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, R-Peru.
"People have been encouraging me to take a look at it," he said. "I haven’t made any decisions yet. That’s a new option that just opened up this weekend. I’m just being encouraged. Certainly, it’s something that I'll consider as an option."
And as far as Congress is concerned, well, that's been an issue of considerable intrigue and discussion this morning, with our friends at WWNY taking note and the big-time, National Public Radio, giving Mr. Hoffman some airtime.
Mr. Hoffman has given his standard response: He wants to see where the district lines will end up.
Asked point-blank whether he'd definitely run of his Lake Placid home were in the 23rd District, Mr. Hoffman demurred, saying: "That’s a hypothetical. I’m not answering that question. I need to see where the district goes and who the opponents are going to be."
And he reiterated his stance that he wouldn't run against Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook.
