Republican Matt Doheny hired a congressional staffer as his campaign manager.
Jeff Freeland was most recently a senior legislative assistant to Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill., according to the Sunlight Foundation.
He is from Lewiston, and went to college at St. Bonaventure University. He used to work for Rep. Chris Lee, a Republican who resigned after scandalous photographs of him showed up on Gawker.
The campaign manager is the top staff position in the Doheny campaign.
Mr. Doheny will face Kellie Greene in a June 26 Republican primary. Whether he wins or loses the primary — and he's a heavy favorite — he'll face Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, on Nov. 6, due to his presence on the Independence and Conservative party lines.
Mr. Owens himself also has a campaign manager — James Hannaway, who has worked on a few campaigns, including Obama for America and a Virginia state Senate candidate, started in March.
