State Sen. Patty Ritchie and Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush will host the state champion Sackets Harbor boys basketball team in Albany tomorrow.
And wait — there is some politics to this. First, geographic. Sackets beat Madrid-Waddington, in St. Lawrence County, to win the Class D title, pitting one part of the district against another.
Then, familial. The Patriots' coach, Jeff Robbins, is the brother of Julia Robbins, former chief of staff to Mr. Blankenbush who is now the executive director of a corn and soybean-based agricultural association.
And finally, redistricting. If Sackets Harbor wins another title in 2013, it won't be Mr. Blankenbush hosting the team in the Assembly chambers. The Black River Republican now represents the village; in 2013, it'll be in the district currently held by Assemblywoman Addie Russell, D-Theresa.
