Funeral services for Robert L. Mehaffy, age 76 of Lisbon Street in Heuvelton, will be held on Saturday (May 26, 2012) at 11:00am at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Lay Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Burial will follow the service at Martin Cemetery in Lisbon.

Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Mehaffy passed away Wednesday (May 23, 2012) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.Surviving are three sons Dennis & his wife Susan Mehaffy of Ogdensburg, Larry & his wife Sheila Mehaffy of Lisbon, Garry Mehaffy & his companion (Colleen Teachout) of Phoenix, NY; two daughters Sally & her husband Christopher Cole of Ogdensburg, Nancy & her husband Nelson Carpenter Jr. of Canton; a brother Loren Mehaffy of Dekalb Jct; grandchildren Samantha, Kaitlyn, Jessie, Eric, Tara, Dana, & Johnathan Mehaffy, Alycia, Lindsay & Mackenzie Cole, Krista, Tiffany & Dylan Barton and special grandson Travis Gilbert; great-grandchildren Gracie & Clair Crobar, Logan DeVito , Ava Dezell and many nieces, nephews & cousins. A daughter Darla Jean Mehaffy predeceased him on June 3, 1965.

Robert was born on August 19, 1935 in Ogdensburg, NY a son of the late Roy & Gertrude (Dailey) Mehaffy. He attended Lisbon High School for his education and married Shirley Dennis on July 7, 1956 in Heuvelton, with Rev. Martin Ives officiating. During his early working career, he was employed at Misserts, Woods Bag & Canvas and on various construction projects. In 1981 he became employed with the Ogdensburg Journal as a rural newspaper carrier until November 2011 when he retired.

He was a member of the Nevin Memorial Church in Lisbon, the Heuvelton AmVets and held the Pilgrim Degree with the Loyal Order of the Moose in Ogdensburg. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Nevin Memorial Church, 1672 County Road 31, Lisbon, NY 13658.
