Even among some of the most politically active and knowledgeable people in the north country, the GOP primary to take on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is "stuck in the shadows".

The members of the Jefferson Tea Party who congregated for the group's monthly meeting on Thursday didn't really know much about Wendy Long, George Maragos or Rep. Bob Turner, who are each trying to secure the GOP nod on June 26.

With a bit more than a week to go, here's my effort to fill you in on what you've missed.

At 12:30 p.m. Friday, Ms. Long will be in Watertown at the Black River Valley Club. She'll be there for a meet-and-greet. She's a Manhattan attorney.

And at some point on Saturday or Sunday, Mr. Maragos, the Nassau County comptroller, will come to Watertown to be interviewed by yours truly, he's told me.

I have not been able to reach the campaign or Mr. Turner, R-New York City.
