With temperatures expected today to rise above 90 degrees, the city of Ogdensburg’s public swimming pool is facing a fourth straight day of shutdown.

An electrical failure in a pump that regulates chemicals in the Elsa M. Luksich Municipal Pool occurred late Saturday at the close of the first day of the Greenbelt pool’s 18th summer season.

Parks and Recreation Director Matthew J. Curatolo shut down the pool effective Sunday. He is hoping for a reopening as soon as Friday if not earlier.

The steamy weather, he acknowledged, was bad timing.

“It’s unfortunate that it had to happen in this heat and humidity,” he said Tuesday. “We are hoping to be open as soon as possible.”

The pool might have reopened earlier this week with a replacement pump in service. But it had been in storage and unused for so long, Mr. Curatolo said, it needed its own repairs.

The pump that broke down Saturday has been in service since the pool opened in 1994.

Not counting those who took swimming lessons, the pool was used by 7,780 fee-paying people in 2011, generating $6,018.50 in revenues. The 2010 totals were 6,973 swimmers and $5,833 in revenues.
