North country unemployment rates in May rose from the same month of 2011, according to the state Department of Labor.
Jefferson Countys rate jumped from 9.1 percent to 9.6 percent, Lewis Countys increased from 9.1 percent to 9.9 percent and St. Lawrence countys hiked from 10.0 percent to 10.4 percent.
Compared with April 2012, Jefferson Countys rate dropped from 10.0 percent, Lewis Countys dipped from 10.2 percent and St. Lawrence Countys rose from 10.1 percent.
Statewide, St. Lawrence County had the fourth highest jobless rate. Compared with May 2011, the states jobless rate rose from 7.8 percent to 8.6 percent. Thats also an increase from the 8.1 percent rate in April 2012.
