Ogdensburg Maples Coach Steve LaRose wanted to get a good look at all of his players in the teams season opener against the Norfolk Rovers at the OFA diamond on Thursday.
He liked what he saw as the Maples secured a 7-5 victory capped with a crisp 6 (Bryant Wentsworth)-4 (Pat Cosmo)-3 (Breton LaRose) double play in the top of the ninth inning.
Jarod Knowlton pitched the victory and Geoff Baldwin picked up a three-inning save in the contest where the two hurlders combined for nine strikeouts. This was a real good ballgame. A great way to start the season. I was especially pleased with our defense, said Coach LaRose.
Baldwin also went 2-2 at the plate with an RBI in the winning offense which also included two singles from Cavan LaRose and Bryant Wentworth, an RBI double by Breton LaRose and an RBI single by Pat Cosmo. Andrew Cole and Brendan Arsenault also singled for the Maples who host Heuvelton in a doubleheader today starting a t 5 p.m.
Troy Kovach singled twice for Norfolk which also received doubles from Mike Ashley and Lee Buchanan and a single from Cody Smith.
