LOWVILLE A 78-year-old woman was killed in a one-car accident on South State Street about 11 a.m. Saturday after she may have suffered a medical problem, village police said.
Maxine W. Nafziger, 7486 Railroad St., lost control of her car near the intersection with Turin Road and it left the roadway, police said. It then struck a sign post and guide wire and scraped a utility pole and maple tree before coming to rest on the side of the street, they said.
She was taken to Lewis County General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police said they are investigating whether she had suffered a problem, pending autopsy results.
The Lewis County Sheriffs Department, Lewis County Search and Rescue, Lowville Fire Department and state police assisted at the scene.
