Seaway Festival parade floats wanted

So you want to have a parade?

Well, you got to have floats.

Lots of them.

The annual Ogdensburg Seaway Festival parade is on July 28 and floats entries are wanted.

Float chairperson Melanie M. Cole said the parade is a perennial top draw for the festival and a proven crowd-pleaser.

“I think the whole community looks forward to the parade,” Mrs. Cole said Saturday. “Everybody comes out for it.”

The requirements fir all parade float commercial/non-commercial class entry are:

—All float entries to be eligible for awards must be entered prior to July 24 with Mrs. Cole, 108 Morris St., Ogdensburg, 393-2219.

—Placement in line of march in the parade will be determined by rotation downward each year with non-commercial winners being fifth, first, and third positions this year and commercial winners being sixth, second, and fourth positions.

Special awards will be placed in the parade at the digression of the parade committee. Positions may be altered by the parade division coordinators, or the units associated with. They may apply to be accommodated by the parade chairperson(s) providing that it does not upset the parade balance and it is approved by the parade chairperson(s) prior to the parade date.

—No float for political advertisement or campaigning will be permitted.

—No float may win more than one award.

—All entries are asked to submit a brief description of the competing float and what it portrays, so that information may be used by the judges, parade announces, and later for publicly purposes, Pertinent information such as the number of people involved, man hours spent on construction of the float, the amount of material should be included.

All descriptive matter must be in the hands of the chairperson by 5 p.m. on July 24. All judging is to be done at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center grounds, Chimney Point Drive, in front of the BreconRidge and Ansen buildings.

—All competing floats must be at the Chimney Point Drive site by 8 a.m. on July 28. Float position will be assisted at that time. No one is to leave the grounds and try to position themselves in the parade. If this is done, all awards, prize money and participation will be forfeited.

—The festival committee will not be responsible for any tools, ladders or any other articles that are brought by the float group.

—Float groups will not be permitted to throw any items from the float such as candy, toys, balloons or pamphlets. All items may be distributed by persons walking beside the float. But these articles may not be thrown.

Floats not complying with this rule will be asked to leave the parade.
