Poised with a chance to break through for a rare home victory, the Watertown Wizards simply let this one slip away.

After rallying to tie the game in the eighth inning, the Oneonta Outlaws scored three times in the 11th inning, pushing across the go-ahead run on a suicide-squeeze bunt, to down the Wizards 10-8 in a wild Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League game Saturday at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.

Sutton Whitting (University of Louisville) walked to lead off the 11th, stole second base and, after he reached third base on a passed ball, Cory Hunt laid down a bunt in front of home plate. By the time catcher Edgardo Salas had recovered, Whitting slid past him for an 8-7 lead.

“Cory put down a phenomenal bunt,” Oneonta manager Greg Zackrison said. “It was really a no-brainer, we knew he was going to get it down and he got it done.”

Two batters later, Logan Brown (Baylor) singled to center field to drive in two runs for the Outlaws (8-6), who halted their losing streak at three.

“It was a good win, because we had lost our last three games,” Zackrison said. “We really battled back this time, we actually finished it and found a way to win.”

The Wizards scored a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI walk by Jordan Enos (Holy Cross), but left the bases loaded as reliever Nick Cioffi (Towson) recorded the save, while Clay Bates (Clemson) was credited with the win. Watertown (6-9) is now 2-8 at home, including five consecutive losses.

“Obviously it’s a little frustrating because we want to win for our fans,” Enos said. “If we keep winning on the road and find a way to get it at home, we’ll be fine.”

Oneonta tied the game in the eighth inning as Brown reached on a fielder’s choice, Zac Johnson doubled and Zander Wiel (Vanderbilt) followed with a two-run single to left field.

“It was a tough loss — we had the lead going into the eighth inning and they tied it up,” Enos said. “We had a couple chances late and it just didn’t happen. We swung the bats pretty well and even late we had a chance to tie the game, but we just didn’t come through.”

The Wizards scored two runs in both the first and third innings to pull within 5-4 and scored twice in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Brandon Cipolla and took the lead at 6-5 when Enos reached on an infield error. Watertown took a 7-5 lead in the seventh on Cole Gleason’s run-scoring single to right field.

Cipolla (Holy Cross) went 4-for-5 and drove in a run for the Wizards, Enos doubled, singled twice and drove in four runs, and Donald Walter homered and singled.

“In the last couple games our swings are starting to come around,” Enos said. “We just have to keep working and we’ll be fine.”

Watertown plays at Mohawk Valley tonight and hosts Oneonta on Monday, with both starts at 7.
