CANTON An Ogdensburg man charged with having sex with a 15-year-old male pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree criminal sexual act, a class E felony, on Wednesday in St. Lawrence County Court.
As jurors assembled for his trial, John A. Skidds, 36, of 616 King St., admitted to Judge Jerome J. Richards that he had sex with an underage boy on March 11 and 12, 2010.
Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 17. He is expected to receive a split sentence including up to 120 days in the county jail and a probationary sentence of 10 years. If found guilty at trial, Skidds could have faced up to 12 years in state prison.
He was released under probation supervision and will be ordered to pay $1,425 in court fees and surcharges at sentencing.
The court also signed a temporary no-contact order of protection directing him to stay away from the victim.
In February, he was charged with providing alcohol to a minor. That charge, which is pending in Ogdensburg City Court, was unaffected by his plea.
