MALONE - The Norfolk American Legion Post 925 Rovers dropped a 6-5 decision on the road to Malone on Thursday.

Brandon Dufrane gained the win in relief of starter Travis Legacy, who went four and two-thirds innings. They had a combined 11 strikeouts and four walks while giving up a total of six hits.

David Phillips was saddled with the loss, taking over from starter Jordan LaShomb with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. They fanned a combined four batters, walked seven and surrendered six hits as well.

LaShomb doubled and scored twice while Cody Smith singled, drove in a run and scored another to anchor the Rovers’ offense. Lee Buchanan stroke a pair of singles. Tyler Haas delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning as part of a three-run outburst that put the Rovers ahead 4-3. Phillips singled and scored a run while Dakota Vallance accounted for the other hit and James Hunt came around to score a solo run.

Malone pulled even with a run in the bottom of the fifth. The Rovers retook the lead with a run in the top of the sixth only to give up a pair of runs on an error in the bottom of the inning.

The Rovers will be hosting a three-team round robin this Sunday starting at 10 a.m. against the Ogdensburg Maples. The Maples and Malone then square off at 12:30 p.m. before Norfolk and Malone wrap up the three-game tournament starting at 3 p.m. All the games will be played at Memorial Field in Raymondville.
